I: OVERALL STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT CONCEPTS

This document illustrates overall framework concepts for street and sidewalk improvements intended to create an improved public realm along the length of the Monument Boulevard corridor. The sketches are preliminary design ideas meant to convey a number of design concepts for review and discussion.

Pages 2 through 4 contain area-wide framework elements, including circulation and landscape/open space concepts. Among the features of these are suggestions for new streets or connections between existing streets that can provide additional pedestrian, bicyclist and motorist circulation options in the vicinity of Monument Boulevard, as well as improved access to Monument for the variety of people who actively use it. The remaining pages illustrate options for a sidewalk configuration that supports the widened sidewalk which is the fundamental access concept underlying our current design approach. These rough sketches indicate that the widened pedestrian zone (19' from curb to building line) can be configured in a number of ways, accommodating a number of streetscape and street furnishings elements while maintaining a circulation path of 10' to 15' width.
